The early bass season is strictly catch-and release.

Beginning October 1, bass are not included in the average for the
At-A-Glance on the home page.  This is because the action is consistently so slow it throws the results off.

There are different bass regulations for many area lakes.

The limit for panfish is 25 in aggregate.  Some people do not realize that the total of all species of panfish combined can not equal more than 25 in total.

Many of our lakes have special regulations for individual lakes.

Be aware of the new minnow disposal law!

Any minnows that you bring on to a lake can not be transported from that lake.  You can be sure the DNR will be diligent about enforcing this law. It seems like a pain-in-the-neck, but it is a serious attempt to try and prevent viral hemorrhagic septicemia, from spreading to our lakes.

VHS is not a threat to people or pets but it’s a serious fish disease and can cause fish to bleed to death. VHS has demonstrated in other countries and Great Lakes states that it has the potential to cause large fish kills, long-term reductions in wild fish populations, and severe economic impacts.

VHS spreads fish to fish, or when infected fish or infected water are transported by people to new water, so the emergency rules prohibit anglers from taking away water or live fish, including bait fish, from the shore or bank of any lake or river in Wisconsin.
